Edmonton is a vibrant and beautiful city in the middle of Alberta’s rangeland and prairies. As the capital city of Alberta, Canada, Edmonton is far enough north to enjoy 18 hours a day of sunlight in summer. Situated on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River, Edmonton has many miles of trails to explore along its forested river valley. But there is so much to do here.

10. Visit West Edmonton Mall – West Edmonton Mall is the largest shopping mall in North America. However, it’s not merely a giant shopping mall; it’s more like a center for epic activities. West Edmonton Mall houses an ice-skating area, a waterpark, an ice area, a golf course and more. No trip to Edmonton is complete without checking out West Edmonton Mall.
9. Make A Big Splash at the World Waterpark – The World Waterpark is in West Edmonton Mall. This vast waterpark has 19 waterslides, some up to 50 feet tall and 450 feet long, with transparent and color-changing sections. If waterslides aren’t your thing, you can hang out at the indoor beach. The World Waterpark houses the world’s largest indoor wave pool with a balmy tropical vibe.
8. Travel Back in Time at Fort Edmonton Park – Located in Edmonton’s River Valley area, Fort Edmonton takes you on a journey of adventure from the 1880s to the 1920s. The park’s history-themed streets are based on life in Edmonton’s formative years. They’re filled with costumed characters, making it seem like you’re in another century. Take a free ride on the park’s steam train, hire a horse-drawn wagon to tour this beautiful park or check out the authentic midway. 7. Get Inspired at TELUS World of Science – Ready to be intrigued and amazed? Then, you’ll want to head to TELUS World of Science. Its goal is to inspire learning and awe-inspired wonder for visitors of all ages. You’ll find countless scientific exhibits, events, a planetarium, an IMAX theater and more. They designed everything at TELUS World of Science to celebrate science and inspire you.
6. Explore Old Strathcona – Old Strathcona is Edmonton’s oldest and funkiest part of town. You’ll find the Old Strathcona district along South Edmonton’s Whyte Avenue. You’ll find it here whether you’re looking for entertainment or great food. Shop at Old Strathcona’s many unique stores and then head to one of the area’s lively brew pubs or many eclectic restaurants to indulge your appetite—and tastebuds.
5. Head to the Farmers Market in Old Strathcona – The Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market is Edmonton’s oldest indoor farmers market. Here, you’ll find a fantastic assortment of locally grown food and locally produced artisan goods. This farmers market has something for everyone and is not to be missed.
4. Discover the Pyramids at The Muttart Conservatory – More than 700 species of plants are housed in the Muttart Conservatory’s three biomes. Each pyramid-shaped biome houses a diverse collection of plants in its climate-controlled environment. Take a stroll through the tropical, arid, and temperate biome zones.
3. Immerse Yourself in Elk Island National Park – Just 35 minutes east of Edmonton, you’ll find the UNESCO-designated biosphere that is Elk Island National Park. It’s easy to immerse yourself in nature here. Elk Island National Park’s rolling hills, crystal-clear lakes and starry skies delight the senses. Keep your eyes open for the park’s bison and elk herds and more than 250 bird species that call this amazing place home.

Without a designated driver, it can be daunting to tour even a few of them on your own.
