Top 10 Things to do in Cave City, Kentucky

Located just outside the famed Mammoth Cave National Park lies the small town of Cave City, Kentucky. But don’t let its small size deter you; this small town is packed with outdoor adventures, great shopping, a famous restaurant and plenty of activities to keep folks of all ages entertained for days. This top 10 list is a great place to start your Cave City adventure!

10. Visit the Welcome Center – Stop by the welcome center on your way in. The staff is very knowledgeable regarding Cave City and can help plan your trip. The Welcome Center is full of brochures and will guide you through the area like a pro.
9. Get Outside! —If the outdoors is your thing, Cave City is sure to please. From ziplining, canoeing and biking through Mammoth Cave National Park, the park is home to some fantastic trails. Lace up your hiking boots and hike the trails.
8. Shopping Galore — Cave City is also a fantastic spot for the shopper. Local boutiques, specialty stores, antiques and markets are on every corner. If you’re feeling groovy, stop by Hippie Joe’s or A Groovy Gal. The Market Ky is an eccentric shop with a wide range of goodies and custom-made shirts. Paul’s Antiques, located downtown, has the coolest pieces.
7. Play Some Pickleball – Cave City just recently installed a pickleball court near Cave Country RV Campground. The pickleball court is nestled behind the welcome center and ready for you with paddles and balls available for rent.
6. Try a Cave Crawl – There is a cave crawl. Yes, Cave City is home to Mammoth Cave National Park but there are also several individually owned caves to visit. Stop by Crystal Onyx Cave, Outlaw Cave (Jesse James slumbered in this cave hiding from the law) and Onyx Cave and Rock Shop. The formation in these caves is sure to take your breath away.
5. Pick a Great Place to Stay – Cave City has three RV parks, with more on the way. Whether you’re camping or looking for a hotel, Cave City accommodates. With more than 500 hotel rooms, 110 campsites and three RV parks, Cave City has the room for you. Check out Cave Country RV Campground, Singing Hills RV Park, Dino Valley RV Park and Jellystone Park for lot accommodations.
4. Have a Night out on the Town – Nightlife in Downtown Cave City is superb. Enjoy summer nights at The Dive. Live music plays every weekend, and the drinks are all named after local lore and stories. Transforming downtown, The Dive is worth the stop. Before 9 p.m., walk across the street and grab some pizza from Cave City Pizza to wash the drinks down.
3. Grab a Bite to Eat – Cave City is home to a mecca of food. Several local restaurants pepper the area. Bucky Bee’s BBQ is in the heart of Cave City and was once on Guy Fieri’s All-American Road Trip. Looking for a burger? Hit up Five Broke Girls, which was recently voted the best burger in Kentucky by Kentucky Living Magazine. Watermill Restaurant is also located in the heart of Cave City and has a stellar buffet. Maybe you need something on the sweeter side? Cave City Creamery is your home to ice cream. Head downtown and check out Cave City’s newest business, Ace Coffee Company, and get your coffee fix.
2. Mega-Sized Fun – Cave City is home to several large attractions. Home to the giant T-Rex off I-65, Dinosaur World is Cave City’s best prehistoric attraction. Hit the longest twin zip line in the state at Mammoth Valley Park. Rent e-bikes at Adventures of Mammoth Cave and cycle through Mammoth Cave National Park. Cool off at Raven’s Cross Village of Adventure with their virtual reality attractions. Horseback ride at Jesse James Riding Stables. Lastly, stop by the Mammoth Cave Wildlife Museum and check out the animals on display.
1. Visit Mammoth Cave National Park – Cave City is home to Mammoth Cave National Park, one of the longest cave systems in the U.S. Tours go out daily, but reservations are highly recommended, especially during the summer months. It stays breezy, 56 degrees year-round.
