RV Park / RV Campground – Pine Island RV and Marina
Written by Caly Behymer
Tucked along the shores of Lake George in Northeast Florida, you can find a piece of the state that feels undiscovered. Untouched by housing developments, office buildings and big box stores, this portion of Florida is filled with trees dripping in Spanish moss and underbrush thick with dense saw palmettos. As you peer through the trees, you can almost convince yourself you spotted a Spanish Conquistador behind a live oak tree. It’s here on the shores of the second-largest lake in Florida that Pine Island RV Park & Marina calls home. Nestled among the live oaks, palm and pine trees surrounding the lake, this quaint and peaceful RV park is an oasis that pushes out the hustle and bustle of the outside world. With just 35 RV sites, two rental RVs and a tiny house, this park virtually promises that your cares and worries will disappear. But don’t let the cozy size of this campground fool you; the park offers plenty of old-world charm and amenities.
The front office and store are large and offer snacks, ice cream, firewood, camping supplies, beer, wine, ice, fishing supplies, live bait and a small coffee bar. A pool table fills one corner of the room, perfect for challenging your loved one to a fun game of billiards. Have the urge to fish? With an onsite boat ramp, gas and slip rentals, you can bring your boat and spend time fishing Lake George for bass, crappie, shrimp, redfish, tilapia, gar and blue crab. The RV park offers kayak and paddleboard rentals if you aren’t into fishing but want to get out on the water. Across the lake from the RV park, Salt Springs and Silver Glen Springs are freshwater springs with crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming and manatee spotting. Both are accessible by boating across the lake or by driving around the lake.
For those wanting to spend time on land, there are hiking trails in the Lake George Conservation Area, and you can pick up some trails a short distance from the RV park’s entrance. The surrounding forests are perfect for spotting wildlife like blue herons, bears, turkeys, deer and wild monkeys. Though not native to Florida, monkeys were brought to the area in the 1930s for the filming of Tarzan and then released into the wild after the movie. The monkeys have adapted and now call the surrounding forest home.
Pine Island RV Park & Marina is conveniently located about an hour east of Ocala, and Flagler, Ormond and Daytona beaches are only 45 minutes away. Day trips to St. Augustine and Orlando are just a quick hour trip, making Pine Island RV Park & Marina the perfect location for a few days or even weeks. Guests often use the RV park as a quiet reprieve after spending their days at nearby events like Bike Week and Oktoberfest.
As you sit next to a crackling fire, watching another breathtaking sunset from your RV as it paints the water in every shade of orange and red, the sounds of nature coming to life around you, you breathe in just a little deeper. You’re camped in old-world Florida, free from city lights, street noise and distractions. This is what camping is all about: peace, quiet and true relaxation among some of the most beautiful bits of nature this side of Florida offers. Pine Island RV Park & Marina is your secret recipe for the perfect, peaceful, distraction-free getaway.
